Our story
is one that has evolved over the past twenty-four years. Back in 1985, in the
city of San Diego, a man had a vision. His vision was to unite the Body of
Christ. This man was R. Paul Carroll, who in 1989 became a full-time Pastor.
However, before his entrance into the ministry, Paul was led by the Spirit to
fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ as recorded in John Chapter Seventeen;
“FATHER, MAKE THEM ONE, AS YOU AND I ARE ONE”.
Prior to
his call into ministry and before his vision for a United Christian Body to be
formed according to the Word in this world, Paul served in the C.I.A., was a
professional basketball player for short term, was instrumental in the issuance
of the first Shell Credit Card out of Chicago, Ill. and started businesses in
the oil pipeline industry out of Mexico. In addition, he had contracts with
major corporations for address tiles. Paul was born in Chicago on a farm in
Southern Illinois and learned at an early age about the Grace of God. In short,
Paul was a visionary and an entrepreneur.
In the mid
1980's, a call began to stir within Mr., Carroll, a call he had no desire to
fulfill. Three men of God came into his life with the message from the throne
declaring that Paul was to enter into the ministry, full time. It was during
this time that Paul’s vision for United Christian Charities was birthed. In
1986, Paul Carroll had leased out Jack Murphy Stadium (now Qualcomm Stadium) in
order to celebrate what he called a “VICTORY CELEBRATION.” The purpose was to
gather together ALL the churches and denominations under one banner, that banner
being Jesus Christ, where all could celebrate their unity in Christ. The Victory
Celebration went forth and much was learned through the process, and it was
then, after the great event in San Diego that Paul submitted to the call of full
time Pastoral Ministry.
For three
and half years R. Paul Carroll instructed, taught, loved, shielded and protected
the flock that God had given to Him, a flock of hungry saints who wanted to know
more about God and desired to move into the deeper things of the Spirit.
Together Paul and Patricia Carroll became a shelter from the storm for hundreds
of people who were in need of physical healing, Deliverance and all the other
needs that go along with ministry. However, even as Paul and Patricia continued
in faithful service to the Lord in ministering to the people, the vision that
once burned bright in him never left. He would often share his heart about
United Christian Charities and how one day we would develop a Teen Leadership
Center.
On one
occasion Paul and I drove up to the hills of Santa Isabella near Julian and
Ramona, CA and he showed me some property he wanted to purchase for the vision.
Time went by and at the end of three and a half years of full time ministry Mr.
Carroll passed away suddenly on December 9, 1991. His dream and his vision for a
United Christian Charities operating by a United Christian Body of believers
died with him.
It was in
the year 1997 after five years of full time ministry, UCC was handed over to me.
10 months after Paul’s passing, the vision of United Christian Charities was
resurrected. I had been fasting at that time and it was on the 13th day of a
water fast that I wrote out, in my garage/office in those days, a fully
developed plan for a Disaster Relief Center. I took the plan to the necessary
people and resurrected the non-profit corporation called United Christian
Charities. UCC received a 510(c)(3) public benefit tax exempt status from the
IRS.
Having
succeeded in forming the corporation I afterwards found myself not knowing what
to do with it. I tried several different ways to promote it, share the vision
with others, but never truly tapped into the depth of what the whole vision of
my Pastor was all about.
The years
have passed and for the first time UCC makes sense to me as never before. I see
a great need for UCC this hour and it is my hope that together we will
accomplish the great tasks that are before us. Now with six members on our Board
of Directors, ready to bring the vision of UCC to pass, I am excited to see the
Lord bring this dream into a reality.
I would
like to say that after 17 years of full time Pastoral Ministry it is with great
joy that this new door of opportunity has opened and through it there is a
boundless supply of heavens rich resources to take care of what is most
important in this life, and that is PEOPLE.
Blessings,
